What conditions do I treat?
Symptoms
The heart and vascular system is pretty much at the centre of it all!
Consequently, diseases of the heart (and vascular system) really can call all sorts of symptoms - the commonest being:
- Chest Pain
- Breathlessness
- Inability to exert yourself
- Fatigue
- Palpitations
- Light headed spells or Blackout
- Ankle swelling
Tests
Having listened to your symptoms and examined you, the sorts of test commonly done at the same visit are:
- ECG (Electrocardiogram) - Heart Tracing
- Echocardiogram - Heart Ultrasound scan
- Exercise ECG - Heart tracing during exertion
- Holter Monitor - Extended heart tracing (24-72Hrs)
- Blood and Urine tests
More advanced tests (such as a Cardiac CT, MRI, coronary angiogram, loop recorder or pacemaker etc) will usually follow the initial appointment.
Conditions
The kinds of conditions that I’m looking for and treating are:
- Coronary Heart Disease - cause angina and heart attack
- Heart Failure - causing breathlessness
- Arrhythmia - heart rhythms causing palpitations/ blackout
- Valvular heart disease - causing breathlessness
- Prevention - reducing elevated heart disease risk
